The journey
A short, dense triangle linking three UNESCO World Heritage sites — the imperial capital of Huế, the lantern-lit trading port of Hội An, and the Cham temple ruins of Mỹ Sơn — over the scenic Hải Vân Pass.
The route
Imperial Citadel, royal tombs and the Perfume River.
The country's most cinematic coastal road.
Ancient Town — lanterns brightest on the full-moon night.
Cham brick sanctuaries — go early before the heat.

Time the rains
Central Vietnam's rainy months (roughly Sep–Dec) can bring flooding to Hội An's old town. Aim for Feb–Aug.
Full-moon lantern night
On the 14th of each lunar month Hội An dims its lights for the lantern festival — book accommodation ahead.
Cross the pass by day
Hải Vân's views are wasted in fog or dark. Ride it mid-morning; the train tunnel is the wet-weather backup.
