The journey
Where the Mekong fans out into nine river-mouths before the sea, the delta is a slow world of floating markets, fruit orchards and stilt-house homestays — best seen from the water at dawn.
The route
Cái Răng floating market — busiest just after sunrise.
Coconut canals and small-boat sampan rides.
Sam Mountain, floating fish farms and Khmer-Cham markets.
Đồng Tháp wetland reserve — rare sarus cranes in dry season.

Safety
Start before dawn
Floating markets thin out by mid-morning. Arrange a boat the evening before to be on the water by 5:30.
Watch the wet season
The floating-water season (roughly Sep–Nov) brings high water and submerged fields — scenic, but check boat schedules.
Carry small cash
Most river vendors and homestays are cash-only. Card and QR coverage thins outside the towns.
