Hot Air Ballooning
Dec 25, 2024 · 2 min read
Currently, there are two common types of hot air balloons in use, such as thermal hot air balloons and cold air balloons. The height of these hot air balloons can vary depending on the specific design and purpose of use.
1. Hot Air Balloon
This type of balloon works by pumping hot air into the air booster, creating internal force to rise. The hot air is created by burning fuel such as diesel or gas in the burner, and is then directed into the air booster.
The height of a thermal balloon can reach about 3,000 – 4,500 meters (9,800 – 14,800 feet).
2. Gas Balloon
This type of balloon uses cold gas, usually a rare gas or hydrogen, to create internal force. Cold gas has a greater density than the surrounding air, creating lift to make the balloon float.
Typically, cold air balloons do not have a fuel source like thermal balloons, but the cold air is kept in a compartment inside the balloon's envelope.
Cold air balloons can reach very high heights, in some cases up to tens of thousands of meters (from 10,000 – 20,000 meters, depending on the design and capacity of the balloon).
You should note that the maximum height a hot air balloon can reach also depends on various factors such as material mass, balloon capacity, weather conditions and flight safety regulations.
Hot air balloons have been introduced to Vietnam for quite a while, however, due to their "enormity", it is difficult to have many locations, spaces and resources to popularize them to everyone.
To be able to see the magnificence with your own eyes and experience flying with Hot air balloon you can come to Fly Up Vietnam event held in May in Tam Chuc - Ha Nam.
